Get stronger, go for longer

“I don’t need to do strength training. I just need to do more swimming/biking/running.”

If only I had $1 for every time I met someone who told me that. I probably wouldn’t need this website for starters.

If you want to be better at sport (better has many definitions and doesn’t always mean faster), then you need to do strength training. Simple.

Strength training will be vital to speed AND being able to keep doing your chosen sport for longer. A strong body is more likely to be faster, have more stamina, and is less likely to get injured.

Think about your sport like building a house

The foundation and framing are strength training.

The walls are your sport specific training.

The roof is your performance at your event.

If your framing and foundations aren’t good, the rest of the house is going to be pretty unstable. Or maybe even fall down.

Or the roof might fall off.

You get the picture.

My endurance focused strength plans will get your body better prepared for what you put it through. They can be done in the off season or I have programmes that can be done alongside any triathlon or running plan

“The strength workouts were a useful part of my triathlon training programme. For me, strength workouts are down the bottom of the pile of fun stuff compared to riding, running and swimming, so having two structured strength sessions where I just had to follow the programme made them a lot more likely to happen!”

“Strength training with Annalie has made a huge difference to my running. The knee pain I used to have going up and down hills (so bad I was starting to think I might have to give up running) has gone. Now I enjoy the feeling of strength in my legs as I haul my arse up the hills.

Annalie structures the workouts so they are running specific - both for my form and fitness. And as an added bonus, I enjoy the strength and functional fitness when I’m tramping. It makes loading my pack with wine and chocolate as well as my tramping gear that much more feasible.”
